Essential Insights for Your Canadian Kayak Adventure

Embark on your wilderness adventure fully prepared and informed. Below, we’ve provided essential insights about our base camp on Sophia Island, kayaking activities, wildlife encounters, and what you can expect during your stay.

Kayaking

Stable & Comfortable Kayaks

Our sea kayaks are stable and suitable for all experience levels. Choose between single or double kayaks; doubles are great for couples, families, or those who prefer shared paddling.

Provided Equipment

Life jackets, paddles, and kayak skirts (to keep you dry) are provided. Before your first paddle, we’ll ensure you understand how to use all equipment comfortably and safely.

On the Water

Guided Paddling Routes

Our experienced guides select the best paddling routes according to weather and currents, ensuring enjoyable and safe experiences.

Relaxing Breaks

We regularly pause for refreshments, stretching, and scenic lunches on remote beaches, giving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy wildlife and nature.

Wildlife Encounters

Commonly Seen Wildlife

You have excellent chances to encounter:

  • Humpback whales, Orcas, Dall’s porpoise, dolphins, sea lions, and seals
  • Bald eagles, kingfishers, and various seabirds

Respectful Viewing Practices

We strictly follow wildlife viewing guidelines:

  • Orcas: Maintain a 200m distance and raft kayaks together.
  • Humpbacks: Keep a 100m distance, rafted as well.
  • Other wildlife: Maintain safe, respectful distances without disturbing their natural behaviors.

Animals occasionally approach closer on their own—when they do, we remain calmly rafted until they move on.
