Our base camp is located within the Qwiquallaaq / Boat Bay Conservancy in the Johnstone Strait, easily accessible from Port McNeill and Telegraph Cove on Northern Vancouver Island.

Trip Details

What types of kayaking trips do you offer?
We offer single-day kayaking adventures, multi-day expeditions (3–6 days), and customized group trips suitable for families, couples, and friends.

What wildlife can I expect to see?
Common sightings include orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, porpoises, bald eagles, bears, and diverse waterfowl.


Booking & Logistics

How early should I book my kayaking trip?
We recommend booking several months in advance, especially during peak summer months, as spaces fill quickly.

What is included in my trip cost?
Multi-day trips include meals, guided kayaking excursions, accommodations, safety equipment, and support boat services when indicated.

Is a deposit required?
Yes, a deposit of CDN $250 per person is required to secure your reservation.


Experience Level & Fitness

Do I need prior kayaking experience?
No previous kayaking experience is required. Our professional guides will provide thorough instruction suitable for beginners and seasoned paddlers alike.

Are your trips physically demanding?
Our trips range from relaxed adventures suitable for all fitness levels to challenging journeys intended for more active individuals. Please inquire to find a trip that suits your preferences.

Are children allowed on trips?
Yes, most trips are suitable for families. Children aged 12 and older are welcome on our multi-day adventures, and younger children may join on select shorter excursions.


Guides & Safety

Are your guides certified?
All our guides are professionally certified through the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC (SKGABC), with regular re-certifications every two years.

What safety measures do you have in place?
Our guides undergo extensive wilderness first aid training and regular safety updates. Trips are supported by safety equipment, communication devices, and optional support boats.


Equipment & Gear

What gear do you provide?
We provide sea kayaks, paddles, life jackets (PFDs), safety gear, and cooking equipment for multi-day adventures.

What gear should I bring?
We recommend bringing suitable clothing (rain gear, warm layers, quick-dry clothing), personal items, sleeping bag and pad (rentals available), sunscreen, and footwear suitable for kayaking and camp. A detailed gear list will be provided upon booking.


Meals & Accommodations

Are meals included on your trips?
Yes, all multi-day trips include freshly prepared meals. We accommodate dietary restrictions and special requests—please inform us in advance.

What type of accommodations do you provide?
Our accommodations include fully covered tent platforms with solid roofs, comfortable beds, and a fully equipped kitchen, offering a comfortable wilderness experience.


Transportation & Access

How do I reach your departure point?
Trips depart from Port McNeill, easily accessible via road and ferry. We can assist with local travel recommendations and parking arrangements.


Environment & Wildlife Conservation

What sustainability practices do you follow?
We adhere to environmentally responsible practices, such as minimizing waste, respecting wildlife habitats, and maintaining low-impact campsites to preserve the pristine wilderness.


Weather & Conditions

When is the best time to kayak here?
Our kayaking season runs from May through September. Weather is typically mild, but conditions vary—layered clothing is recommended.

What if there’s bad weather?
Safety is our priority. We continually monitor weather conditions and have protocols to adjust trips accordingly. Our sheltered base camps and flexible itineraries help ensure a comfortable experience.
