The “Orca Explorer Adventure” is our longest-running (more than 24 years) and most popular adventure for couples, families, and groups of friends. One well-established basecamp is used on each of these trips. Highlights like whale watching, daily kayaking, rainforest walks, and creature comforts such as on-demand hot showers make this trip hard to beat. It offers the perfect number of days to visit North Island, complete the adventure, and return home within the seven-day week.
The trip begins with whale watching during the boat ride to our well-established base camp on Sophia Island. Our location provides an ideal base for casual encounters with abundant wildlife and offers easy access for sea kayaking. Camp provides a comfortable glamping experience regardless of the weather. Each trip includes a variety of activities tailored to make the most of each day and night. Eagles, ravens, and a wide range of waterfowl inhabit the surrounding area. Activities are planned daily to capture the best the day has to offer. Our passion is kayaking, but our wildlife encounters and observations often add a special touch to this four-day trip.
It’s possible to see seven species of marine mammals (including sea otters, orcas, white-sided dolphins, and humpback whales with calves), eagles, ravens, bears, and numerous waterfowl (such as harlequin ducks) without needing binoculars. Land-based whale watching is frequently a daily occurrence from our island base camp. There’s also a chance to see black bears foraging along remote shorelines at low tide.
